Preparation of Development Consent Order (DCO) documents. This will include getting our application ready to send to the Planning Inspectorate.

Submission of DCO application to the Planning Inspectorate - we submitted our DCO application on 21 November 2022 and it was accepted for examination on 15 December 2022. We’ll start to make preparations to begin the detailed design phase of the project.

Winter 2022/Spring 2023

Engineering Surveys, including drainage, ground investigation and utility surveys, to assist with the design of the project. These may require traffic management and overnight closures to do this.

2023

Spring 2023
Ecology Surveys – we'll continue to keep an eye on the local flora and fauna as the scheme progresses. We’re working closely with stakeholders and local authorities to identify habitats and understand as much as we can about how to work around certain species.

DCO Examination – our application to the Planning Inspectorate will enter a 6-month examination.

Winter 2023
Further Ecological Surveys – we'll continue to conduct ecological surveys throughout the winter.

Spring 2024
The DCO decision will be made by the Secretary of State – we will announce this on our website and in our newsletter.

2024

Late 2024 / Early 2025
Start of works – work to improve the M3 junction 9 begins.

Late 2027
All work completed.
